Is anyone planning on running the JFK 50 miler this year?

Hi. I am seriously considering it. It will all depend on how I like Boston in April. If I want to rerun it, I may do Steamtown to requalify OR if I don't feel like I need to rerun it, I will do JFK.

I'm hoping to make it my first 50-miler, no later than 2012. I'll likely try to get into NYC in 2011, but if I don't, I might look at JFK instead.

I entered the lottery for NYC for this year, but unfortunately was not accepted. I was hoping to use NYC as a good training run for JFK. If you are looking for a good first ultra, look into the LT J.C. Stone 50k in Pittsburgh, Pa. It is a great course on a 5 mile loop. Challenging course, but very cool to run.

Default How do you enter?

Hello, I do not know anyone from my area who has done the JFK. For some reason its not too big a deal out West. I'd like to do the race but it appears there are not even forms available yet. Do they not even get posted until June?

How much does entry cost?

This is what I found on the website:

July 10, open entries to general field. Any entry (not meeting July 1 requirements) post-marked prior to July 10 will be rejected. On July 20th, from all entries received in the July 10-20 time-frame, entries will be pulled "lottery style" until the general field is filled. Entries and entry fees of all those not gaining entrance to the general field will be returned.

My friend ran it last year, I can ask her what the registration process was.

Default thanks

Unless I missed it I see no info on the cost and no application is shown. It seems rather mysterious. I may not do this it would run me maybe 1200
dollars for car, airfare, hotel etc.

Generally the application & race details isn't posted until July 1. Right now they have some info posted regarding who get's to register and when. You can't do anything online, it's all done by mail. I believe I paid around $130 in 2008. Right now I'm on the fence about signing up for this year... perhaps a few runs out on the course may help me make a decision. The course is beautiful and organization superb!

I have ran 4 marathons, Lincoln, Grandma's, and Twin Cities twice.

What kind of training would you recommend for preparing for a 50 mile marathon?

Is it even possible for me to do this or should I gain more experience before 50 miles is attempted?
