Default Running a Relay this weekend

I know I haven't been around as much lately - just alot going on. Work has been crazy busy for me. I have taken quite a bit of time off in July and I'm the only one that does my job so still have to get all the work done in about 1/2 the time that I normally have . . . anyways. . .

i'm leaving tomorrow a.m. for Central Oregon to run in Cascade Lakes Relay. We are a 12 person masters team. Our team name is "Old and In The Way". CLR is a 216.6 relay and I think it's ranked as one of the most difficult relays in the U.S. Some pretty crazy elevation and hills and central oregon is at its hottest in july/august. Last year it was in the low 100's. But we are looking at temps around the upper 80's this wknd so that'll be nice.

I'll check back in next week and let you all know how the relay was and how our team did! Good luck to all the other runners and racers this wknd!

we did well. Thanks

1st place Mixed Masters Division.

ETA: I'll give a bit more info incase anyone is interested. We won this division by only 72 seconds which is pretty amazing considering you are out on the course for as long as you are. We finished around 31 1/2 hrs. I don't recall the exact time off hand, but as a team we averaged 8:43's and the 2nd place team averaged 8:44's. It just really goes to show how every second does count and we were proud of the fact that for each time we might have wanted to walk, but pushed through, it made the difference. For each time we needed to take a walk break, but started up running when we might have wanted to continue walking, it made a difference. For each time we saw a runner up ahead and made it our goal to catch up with and pass that runner, it made the difference. For each time our next runner was at the exchange and ready to take off right away when our runner came in, it made the difference. We worked together as a team and everyone pulled their weight. It made the difference.

That's awesome! I've never run a relay, but then I am just celebrating my first year of running this weekend. I've learned lots over this past year and now realise that I have alot more to learn! I've picked up some of it from books and articles but most of it comes from this forum! RR ROCKS! The members here are a wealth of knowledge for the new runner and it's good to have other to talk running so you don't scare away the husdand/wife who doesn't care about your PR or then best type of running shoe to wear for trail running vs road running! I would like to try a relay some day. My company runs a relay every year and I am thinking of running in it next year if I'm still working there.

Thanks Ciri. I added some more info to my previous post that you might have missed - looks like we were posting at the same time.

If you get a chance to do a relay, DO IT! This is my 2nd one and I absolutely love relays. Of course, I had a great group of friends to run it with. 6 of us were on the same relay team 2 yrs ago when we did Ragnar Northwest Passage. You have to really like the runners you are with if you are going to spend that much time in a van with them!

Relays are great adventure runs that can be enjoyed by every level of runner - from beginners to the experienced and faster runners.

did you see my pics posted over at FB? that is some crazy fun!
