Default My first 1/2 with the Martians

It was f-in cold out there at 6:30AM. I was wearing layers to keep warm! Three tops, tights and warm ups, and a outer gear jacket. I also had on compression socks and my geek socks Nothin' was keepin' the cold out. By the time I got to the start line my digits were numb and burning! I was waring gloves but they weren't helping. There were three Martians with us. Captain Kirk, Spock and what I think was a, Idon't know what! The first mile I froze my ars off but then I started to warm up! I was going about 5.4mph until mile 6 then my knee started aching and I stepped on a rock so my other ankle was aching as well. I think I slowed to about 5.1mph after that. Still, I was enjoying the run. A work mate passed me and left me with incouraging words as she bobbed and weaved though the crowd. I kept moving. At mile 7 I had to make a pit stop! I think it took my a little longer then I thought it did because I hadn't gone at all before the race. To excited! At mile 8 I was so slow that I think I was moving backwards. My knee was killing me and I started feeling a slight ache in my calves. I pressed on because I never quit!! At mile 10 my ankle felt like it had swollen up and the muscles were hurting. I was limping on the inclines because of my knee and my calves were getting a little worse. I kept telling myself that I had to keep going because I was wearing the RR shirt and representing winners Mile 12 came and with it severe cramping in my calves. I was moving like an old lady with arthritis, but an Alien was above me on an overpas waving so I couldn't stop because no Alien was going to beat me. That last 1.1 mile was HELL! I have never gotten past 12 mile until today. When I saw the finish line I perked up and felt myslef speed up a little(I think I passed a snail)I could see my hushand coming into view and suprisingly my co worker as well was there to cheer me on in that final stretch! As I stepped over the finish line I felt like I could cry but I was smiling instead! I swear that the first thing to come out of my mouth was" I can do this again"! I don't have my final time but the time in the picture my husband shot said 2:51:08. I'm waiting for the chip time to come in. My medal is cool!!!
