Default St. Jude Half Marathon

Today I ran my second half marathon. It wasn't as fast ass my first, but it was great because it was for the kids. We started at Beal St. and ran all over downtown Memphis out to the Zoo, and then back into the downtown area via Poplar Ave. It was a great run! Probably the most important part of the race was when we ran through the St. Jude campus. While we were running there were patients and family members out there rooting us on. It made me realize that no matter how bad I'm hurting it was for them not for me.

My finish time: 2:09:33 Pace 9:54 a mile
My place in age group: 181 of 245
My gender placement: 1006 of 1374
My overall placement: 1927 of 6432

What a cool race route. Think I would have gotten a little choked up running through campus. Emotions run high during race, it's always so humbling when you see people watching a race, who probably can't run, and it's no choice of their own. Personally it makes me really reflect on my own life and I get a little mad at myself for taking running for granted. Here I am stressing about 10 seconds on a 5k time when I should be happy I can make it to the starting line.

All the runners going through campus had to really be a bright spot in those families days. Seeing all of you running for them. That's cool

Those things did go through my mind especially when I saw kids out there in masks. But they were waving us on and cheering for us. That was what it was all about: The Kids. It didn't matter how bad we were hurting or how tired we were. The looks on their faces were enough. That is why I'm not to upset because I didn't PR on this race. It was for them, not me!
