I decided to use my write-up from my blog:
What a glorious morning! I wasn’t feeling it when I arrived at the race site, but my body was betraying me. I did a easy warm-up run and headed for the starting line. I met a fellow runner from Dailymile and we chatted up until the gun, that helped keep me loose. I had rested my legs for two days, and wanted to go all out for this one. I made sure I was close to the front to avoid traffic, and we were off! After a quarter mile, I knew I was ahead of my pace, the Garmin said 6:30 and I doubted if I could keep that up. If I could just stay around 7:00, a
PR would be no problem. The end of mile 1 was downhill and I hit the split at 7:00 flat. This is good. I tried to concentrate on turning my feet over quickly, and slow my breathing down, which I never really did. Mile 2 was a bit slower at 7:21, but I new I had a good one brewing, so I pushed it. There’s a huge hill at 2.25 so I pumped my arms as hard as I could because I knew when I hit the top, the downhill would help tremendously. Down the hill I went, legs feel good but breathing is just not there, I stopped worrying about it and just kept going. When I hit tenth of a mile left I could see the clock ticking towards 22, breaking this time is a goal for me. I pushed and pushed and crossed at 22:06. A new
PR! I shattered my previous time of 23:42 by over a minute and a half! I was so excited to place 3rd in my age group there! The guys in my group at this race are always fast and I’m finally catching up. Thank you, speed work! Good run, good morning.
