Default Watermelon 5K #2

Ok.. well I should proly wait till the results are in.. but heres my story and Im stickin to it...lol Joe, Thanks for all the help and advice it really did help.. well we arrived there around 6AM got a great parking spot, and went over and got signed in got my bib pinned on and put the chip on my shoe... OK ready!!! lol so now its about 6:15 lol just walked around checkin people out as they arrived a little smaller crowed this time... ok well they lined us up and getting ready to hear the horn... oh I did do a half mile run just to warm up.. and then did some stretching. this time they had signs up according to your pace at the start line.. so I lined up in the 8 min. pace... Well the Horn blew.. and I always think of cattle at this point..lolit started ok... was alittle slow but not that bad.. I knew that a half amile down the road it would thin out .. I was keeping my pace under 9.. feeling good... just hung in there.. and had a few blast once in awhile just going around some people.. had a few go by me.. and hung with them as much as I could. now chipped time is different than just timed.. at the first mile he is shouting out our time and it was off from my Garmin.. then Iremembered that my time starts when I pass over the start line.. anyways.. I was doing good.. I really wanted to go faster.. but I was chuggin aready.. so just kept that pace.. I had a few go by me then they would drop off and I would go by them... and I was getting close to that after burner time.. lol Right Joe.. lmao.. so here we are.. we hit the 2.85.. mark and I decided its time.. I had about 4 or 5 people right infront of me and I nailed it!!!! pass all of them.. I checked Mr. Garmin and I was hitting a 6 even 5. something pace...sooo I guess you want to know my time...lol well my time at the first race was 29.37 this one but not official yet but my Garmin tells me..... 27.43 didnt get my PR but I can work with it.. for sure its my second fastest ever.... so.. there it is... from there on out.. it was watermelon eating....

Awesome!!sounds like you did great, beating your last time like that is so good! Joe and I have been watching all day for you to post how it went. Sounds to me like you should be proud of yourself. It is such a good feeling when you can pass people -especially at the end when everyone is so tired. I'm happy for you, good job.

a two minute improvement on the same course just a few weeks apart shows great improvement. nice running. thats really hard to do at that distance.

knowing how far 400 meters and how fast you can run that 400 meters comes in handy at the end of 5k.

might have been your second best time but its hot and humid out there. ive read something like every degree over 70 you can take a few seconds off your mile time. it had to be 80 this morning at race time. also that Lake Hollingsworth course is exactly the right distance. running the same course is really the best way to test your progress. i ran 2 5ks last year a week apart. i thought i cut 45 seconds off my time.... until i looked closer at my garmin download. the course was a tenth of a mile short.

now next time your running your 400's you can think of passing those people at the end for motivation.

Whats up next? are you going to sneak another 5k in before the next watermelon race...

How about the overall winners time??? crazy fast! i ran in the may classic when he ran, it was an out and back course. i saw him on his way back and seriously was wondering if he was even in the race or had just jumped on the course somewhere. not used to seeing someone on their way back already at 8 or 9 minutes. that guy has a smooth stride. what an efficient and fast runner.
