I'm very excited for you! I remember my first race. I actually ran a 10k because I was that stupid! but I finished and then signed up for a 5k. You'll do a great job and have fun doing it. Once its over you will want to sign up for another right away!

You will love it ! Last year I set a goal for doing a minimum of one 5k a month. I ended up doing a total of 17 races that also included a 7K, a 5 mile, a 12K and 2 Half Marathons. I think I became addicted to the T-shirts lol! So far I have only signed up for a 7K for 2011 because I am going to be training for my first full Marathon in June!

its a question of moneys for me.... but im so happy - ive got the South Australian Race Calender as my background. i dont think ill do as well as i want to but as long as i finish ill be a happy camper.... the plan for my first marathon is end of 2012...if i can muster the $2,500 entry fee (its a weeklong package deal) or else ill just find a local one to do, so long as its acomplished

Congratulations on signing up for your first rAce. You will love it, it's so much fun just being around other runners, everyone is so positive, it is so much fun! Can't wait to hear how it goes. I love the early morning races when I can think "look at all these people that got up early to come out to run, instead of sleeping in"

CONGRATS!!! Races are so addicitive. I feel like I've missed out on something if I go a whole month without a race (I do 5ks- half marathons).

@asnordahl I'm addicited to the T-shirts too. I'm hoarding them to make a quilt. I'm 19 shirts into the 50+ require to make a king-sized quilt!

Good for you. Have a great time.

P.S. Take word "only" out of that post. There's no "only" about it. Don't discount your efforts and accomplishments.
