Default My first half marathon... !!!

Well, my first half marathon is coming up this Sunday. I am nervous and excited! I figure I can always walk some of the way should it prove to be too far... but of course, I will try to run all of it. This has been my running goal for this year... that and a 94.7 km cycle race in November, to raise money for the childhood cancer foundation... but that's for another day.

Any last minute advice from the pro's ?

Hey!! What race are you running?

If you use gels or bloks just make sure you have your fav with you.

Double knot your shoes!

Set 2 alarms so you don't oversleep and have to rush + set aside what your wearing the night before.

Give yourself plenty of time to get there + potty!

Have fun and make sure someone is there to take pics!

Enjoy - don't go out too fast - enjoy - don't worry about speed - enjoy.

Did I mention that you need to relax and enjoy????

Goodluck and don't forget to post a race report!! Looking forward to hearing it!

Hydrate the night before and don't change you eating habits for the morning of the race. drink at the hydration stations. Smile and have fun!

Thanks for the advice and support everyone!

Its the Randburg KFC Harriers road race (in South Africa)... I have been running alone most of the time so never have someone to take photos :-( But maybe I'll be lucky and get one of the official race photos? If so, I will post it with my report... :-)

If you have your cell with you have someone take a quick shot of you when you finish. I may do that for my next race!

Have fun and like drumb says, "start out slow." From personal experience, don't do the gels or bloks unless you are used to them. I decided to "try" them at my first half and almost choked to death. Blech! Have a great race! Share the details afterwards.
