Default Define winning yourself!

There is a lot of crap out there, very stupid comments about winning.

The ultimate- "2nd place is the first looser" - anyone who believes or says this is a loser by definition. Unless they happen to be the best in the world at everything they have ever tried! example- 29 minute 10 k won the race, no you are a loser, as there are people 2 minutes faster.

What is a winner?. A winner is someone who has some ambition, goes out there and succeeds in doing it! We are all winners in some aspects of our life.
Hopefully we are working on the "problem areas" or weaknesses.

I agree Henry. well said.

2nd place is the 1st loser is an awful statement in my opinion. can't stand that one.

to me, the person that came in dead last, but worked dang hard to give up a sedentary lifestyle, or lose a lot of weight, and become active again is hands down a winner.

If you believe it you achieve it! If you think your winner then you will be a winner!!

have to agree with everyone on this, one of the first things i noticed when i started racing is how humble the actual winners of the race are, sure they are happy, but i have never seen arrogance at race.
Everyone is there doing thier best, which is really cool.
Its the only place you really see so many people, from so many walks of life, all participating, and trying to win.. by win I mean win for themselves, a PR.

A race is place where you can see genuine happiness. one of my favorite things to watch is a spouse or parent or brother or sister waiting for thier racer to finish.

Then you see 2 very happy people.. a proud moment. you can see that happen over and over on race day..
where else can you see that?

I only compare against my own best self! If I ran MY best time or my best race, then I'm a winner!

Some of the comments I'm seeing here about what it takes to be a winner reminds me of why I have so much admiration and respect for Scott Jurek. Sure, he can go out and win just about any race he wants and he's done some pretty phenomenal things, but do you ever hear of him out there bragging about his course records, his accomplishments, etc.? He's a very humble winner.

What it takes to be a winner? Putting on your running shoes. (Everyone that does that is a winner in my book)
