Default Fun race recommendations?

Hi folks! As a new, slower runner, but one who loves to travel and sees this all as great excuse for the occassional weekend getaway, I'm trying to find some fun ones that might be worth a trip.

I'm currently thinking about the Flying Pig Half in May (Cincinnati), and was wondering a) if anyone had any thoughts on that particular race, b) if anyone was already planning on running it, and c) any other fun ones they'd recommend.

There are lots of amazing runs here in CO, but sometimes it's just fun to get out there...

Finding her happy pace,
Jennifer

I have done the Breckenridge Firecracker Trail Run on July 4 before and am planning on doing it again this year. It kicks my butt because I'm not used to the altitude but it was a blast. Have you done that? Not sure where you are in CO.

I also will add that the Des Moines Marathon is really fun. It's a nice route and the crowd is great. It is in October. I do the Half Marathon. I'm not a full marathon girl!

I don't know how far you're wanting to travel, but St. Jude Marathon/Half Marathon/5K is an awesome run!!! It is in Memphis, TN and the spectator support is awesome. It is in December every year! The half course goes through the campus of St. Jude Children's Hospital and it is literally life changing! So far, St. Jude is may all time fave!

I'm thinking about doing the Flying Pig, so I'm curious as to any feedback on that one.

Happy running!

Everything I've heard has been positive about the Pig, even the hills (a total pain, but worth it in the end)... I'm thinking we may have to sign up!

OK, I did it. Signed up for the Pig. Now it's just a matter of getting some training in and booking a flight/hotel! If anyone else signs up, let me know! We can cheer each other on through the next few months! I know *I* will need it!
