Default OK! What is it.....

What is it that makes us push ourselves at the GYM! Running miles on the TM and working out until we are in pain! We're tired and achy and sometimes grumpy from working out but we continue to go back day after day. What is it that motivates us to do this! I go because I want to keep my weight down and still have some of the foods I like. Plus I a happy to look good in my jeans! Sometimes I run to get away from stress. Sometimes working out can help with anger issues that I didn't know I had until I am pushing the weights and mumbling bad language under my breath! A few peoples names have been included. I think some of the other GYM members are afraid of me! What motivates you to keep going?

It makes me mentally much healthier. I also like to be able to eat what I want. I get a huge adrenaline rush even though I am not a super athlete by any means. I believe that running was key in helping me overcome some very unhealthy eating issues. I couldn't run if I wasn't taking care of myself physically...in turn I could eat what I wanted if I was running.

Health which encompasses more
than the physical, it also assists with the emotional & spiritual well being.
Last year after the Chicago marathon I stopped running for seven weeks because my achilles hurt. I gained 15lbs just like that....took me alot longer to take it off.

Never again...

Ive thought about this a lot, and i think its a lot of reasons that all lead back to something primal in each of us. the instinct to compete--- which thousands of years ago meant surviving. I think with all the modern inventions most people have lost that so when we start to run and get that "great run feeling" we dont really know why.. and nothing else feels like that, yet its hard to describe.

Whether you race or not your competing to try and better yourself and it feels good. even if you dont get faster, you will generally get healtier and feel better all while you are building endurance.

if you race, unless the world record holder, you know that there are people faster than you. you are competing against your own times, if you happen to pass people along the way, that feels pretty good too. back to survival mode. i dont a t-rex eating me.. right?

the health benefits are great, and make you feel great, physically and emotionally. to me that could possibly be that survival instinct. the more fit you are the more likely you are to survive right?

i could be way off on this but thats how i feel. maybe im on to something.

I like everyones answer.. its health..its just getting in shape.. and keeping the weight off.. the mental part is really good to.. and the competing part also... I never ran.. and when the weight left I found myself with the energy to move.. and running filled that void the easiest ... and the more I ran the more I liked it.. I was able to escape...everything... and when I started seeing improvements.. well that was just unreal.. and that fired me up even more... My god.. 13.1 miles thats not even right in my book of life...lol so its everyones answer.. and now with a great group of people around me and in the same frame of mind its really cool..lol my life has done a 180.. and I like it.... so everyone... ROCK ON!!!! all of the answers are here and many more... KEEP RUNNING MY FRIENDS!!!!!! ITS GOOD FOR THE SOAL......

I work out and run for my health. I look at my family history, as I did when I first started and I don't want it. My mom has high blood pressure and diabetes. My sister has high blood pressure too. Other family members of mine have these problems, and some have died of strokes. I didn't want this to happen to me, and I was on the verge of it. So, I changed my life, and I continue to do so. Running helps me let go of my stress and it gets me ready for my day at work. I love it, and it has loved me back! I will keep running and working out as long as I can!
