Default Ankle Weight?

Does anyone use ankle weight for walking etc? I bought some ankle weights. I think I am going to make a point of wearing them when I am not running. Just wear them everywhere. And then when I run take them off. I am wondering if by doing this my runs might feel easier. Just a concept. Worth a try. Plus I like muscles

I would think it would have to help strengthen your legs - walking around with extra weight will make you feel so light when you take them off to run! I can't imagine that it would have any negative effect but I really don't know. I wore ankle weights one day then I promptly lost one and didn't really think walking around with 1 weight was going to accomplish what I wanted! Good luck - let me know if you like it.

Hahaa this was short lived. I broke the strap to the right ankle weight this morning. I thought it was a good concept to try. I thought once you take them off and ran it might feel easier like you were saying because you'd feel lighter. I think my ankles must be to big or I bought a cheap pair. Busted one strap right off hahah.

LOL - I personally would take that as a sign of "I'm doing just fine the way I am, maybe this wasn't meant to be" funny we both just got one day in with the weights!

A really bad idea in general! Your ankles are supposed to provide some/most of the lower body shock absorption, with weights attached that pronation is not going to work as well. If for some reason you want to walk and make it harder, hills or wear a pack on your back.

Not run in ankle weights. Just walk in them. Really? Well good thing I broke one of them. Running gods must be looking out for me

Thanks.

That is kind of funny. Hahaha I still have the wrist weights. But not sure how that will play into helping me with my running. Sometimes I am such a dork.

No I meant no ankle weights walk or run. Wear a backpack with weight for walking if you like or run hills.

Default ankle weight

Found article in April 'Competitor' Chicago Issue that homemade ankle weights
are used to eliminate knee pain. extend your leg and rest on something7~8" below buttocks, strap on weight, I used my 5Lb ankle weights. and lift 15 reps each (only lift 8" until perpendicular). It strengthens muscle that keep knee cap centerred, and it seems to have fixed my knee in 3 days, better than struggling the last 6 weeks. So they are still useable besides backpack ballast.
