I love free weights for the arms. Curling a 20lb weight, not bad for a buck 25 gal. Skullcrushers. Leg presses currently pressing 130lb down from 145lb. I have yet to up the pounds on leg curls. Find these the hardest of all my weight training. Been at 40lbs forever. No improvement. Love weights. They make your muscles look cooool

I do everything. I used to train with a personal trainer, then learned everything beyond that to get my own certification. (I still need to just take the test)

I break my weights down per muscle group. For instance, on Monday I'll do all chest, Tuesday-Biceps/Triceps, Wed.--Legs, Thursday-Back/Shoulders, Friday, Core.

I run and/or cross train as well on the days I don't run doing the elliptical, stairclimber or spin bike. I cannot swim to save my life. Ok, well I can, but I don't like to.

So depending on the muscle group I do, determines the machines I'll use and/or free weights. I prefer free weights because I like to control how much I lift. I'm usually on the floor for 50 min. to an hour, then do some other type of cardio. Easily 2 hour workouts. I love it.

i adore weights training. i love free weights because i have more control and it develops my stabilizing muscles as well as the target muscle. im looking currently at getting some kettle bells. i have only used them once but i love the workouts i can build around them. unfortunately it seems that it would be cheaper to buy them in the US and ship them to myself than to walk into my local and pay cash. i dont use machine weights because i dont believe in isolating the muscle (unless there are join issues which warrant isolation) and with the rate of muscle growth in the first six weeks it is AWESOME motivation.

weight training is so great, i love it now more than i ever did before because i run. I can do 20 minutes on the treadmill to get the blood flowing, then hit the weights.

my wife and I train one or two body parts per day, 12-15 total sets per body part (two or three different excerised 4 to 5 sets of each)
you end up workind your entire body in 5-8 days and then start over.
you can have a rest day when you need to and get your long runs in as well.
we are usually out of the gym in under an hour and we are making awesome gain.

we were both stuck at certain points but the we starting doing "slow reps" and broke through sticking points.
if your stuck try doing the lowering parts of excerise really slow
and example would be a basic curl, curl the bar up like normal then let it down really slow, (2 seconds is about right)
use a weight that allows 8-10 reps, i promise you that you will be sore and stronger. works good on any bench presses too.

Hey does anyone know what is a good weight to leg press for a girl? I've heard that 1 and half x your body weight but that seems a bit much for a girl. I don't want to work up to something that I don't need to do. I don't shy away from weights due to bulking. I don't think you truly bulk up unless your are lifting crazy weight. Just wondering whats a good rule of thumb for this.

I can leg press 120lb and am shooting for 180lb-200lb. 120 is the boarder of light weight and mid weight as stated by my trainer. I don't want to go higher then 200lb because I don't want bulky muscle either.

I workout in the Gym every week day, take off on weekends because I usually do long runs and need my full strength. I work heavilly on my core. Runners need to have a strong core! I love doing free weight on my arms and back. Runners with beautiful arms and back compliment their already beautiful running legs!
